POWERHOUSE SINGER YWADA TO RELEASE DEBUT EP PERCEPTION AGAINST REALITY

Pair a dynamic voice with unbridled determination. The resulting equation adds up to a new musical force: Ywada. And the talented singer/songwriter’s mission is simple and straightforward — to share her passion and love of music.
“I feel there’s a great soul that lives within me,” says Ywada (pronounced Yah-da). “This is why I will keep going no matter what obstacles get in my way. I have to do this ... it’s my calling.”
That calling comes to vibrant life on Ywada’s new EP, Perception Against Reality (New Age Productions, June, 2013). The 10-track set pulsates with an arresting combination of contemporary beats, engaging rhythms and truth- wielding declarations. Flavoring that mix: Ywada’s full-bodied, soul-riveting vocals, guiding listeners on a journey through love and relationships. From the soothing oasis of perception to the frank—but ultimately empowering— shores of reality.
That journey is emotionally depicted on such standout tracks as “Time Out” and her first single release, “End of the Road.” The song was produced by Miykal Snoddy (Ne-Yo, Diddy, and Trey Songz) and written by Ywada, Miykal Snoddy and Carmael Frith. The former, finds a woman summoning up the courage to step back so she and her partner can truly assess their relationship. The mid-tempo track was penned by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Harold Lilly (Alicia Keys, Fantasia, Trey Songz) and produced by Harold and Blac Elvis (BeyoncĂ©, Usher, Fergie).
As the title implies, “End of the Road” closes the door on a relationship. Resonating with the confusion and pain that accompanies heartbreak, the track also showcases Ywada’s considerable skills as a songwriter, In fact, Ywada and co-writer Alfred Gaines (Young Jeezy and Ja Rule) penned most of the remaining tracks with rising producer AJ Platinum (Young Jeezy) producing the majority of the EP. The result? No frills, honest-to-goodness music with relatable stories to share.
“There’s nothing contrived about my music or my singing,” emphasizes Ywada with refreshing candor. “It’s simply about helping people through life’s ups and downs. You want to laugh, dance, cry ... I’ve got something for everybody.”
Christened with the Hebrew name meaning to care and understand, Ywada was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida. While attending a private Christian school, the daughter of musically inclined parents cultivated her natural talent through vocal coaching and five years of classical piano. From there, she began singing at various Christian and gospel events before experiencing a life-changing moment at the age of 15.
That’s when BET gospel pioneer Dr. Bobby Jones introduced her to Grammy- winning gospel artist Yolanda Adams, with whom she got the chance to sing. Inspired by Adams’ words of encouragement and influenced by such gospel-bred singers as Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin, Ywada has since opened for such acts as Fantasia, Ledisi, Keyshia Cole, Avant, R. Kelly and Anthony Hamilton, and also appeared on BET’s popular countdown show “106 & Park.”
Now this burgeoning musical force is ready to share her gifts on a wider scale. There are many artists out there who can sing. But the major difference between them and those who can go the distance is knowing who you are and what you want. Ywada is part of that talented few.
Ywada is a powerful performer which audiences will get to see during her upcoming promotional tour. “I can’t wait to share my music with the world,” says Ywada. “I’m all in ... coming in strong and going hard. Keep your eyes and ears open.”

GRAMMY AWARD WINNER, SONGWRITER AND POP/R&B PIONEER JODY WATLEY

(Los Angeles, CA – September 24, 2013): Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer, Jody Watley, one of  Pop/R&B and dance music’s most enduring and stylish trailblazers, returns with her new single “Nightlife.”
https://soundcloud.com/jodywatley/jody-watley-nightlife-single

Ms. Watley, who has mastered a career in keeping a career in Dance and R&B music going, continues her legacy on the shimmering dance floor classic, inspired by her well documented roots in funk and soul music. The veteran song stylist has created an energetic dance floor anthem that is innovative, while also paying homage to her many influences. “Nightlife” is available on iTunes and select digital outlets and limited edition 12" vinyl. The single also features fellow original Shalamar lead singer Gerald Brown. Jody’s soulfully spirited,
up-tempo album  Paradise is scheduled for release in early 2014 on her longtime imprint Avitone http://jodywatley.net/avitone/

“People love to dance to feel the groove,” says Jody. “I wanted ‘Nightlife’ to capture the spirit of vintage soul and deliver a song that people could play at either a house party, getting ready for a night on the town, at clubs, to get the dancers on the floor, or simply make people feel inspired to be fabulous. Everyone feels better dressed up, especially in difficult times.  From the song’s intro, to the energy on the track, we worked to make the music come alive,” adds Jody. Serving again as both performer, co-writer and co-producer on “Nightlife,” she collaborated with the emerging production duo Count de Money from the UK. “I’ve always been about the style of music. I wanted to paint a picture with the music and evoke an uplifting emotion. I find this missing in a lot of music today. Soul music is not just ballads; it has also always been about a quality rhythm with a message as well.

Jody’s career as a chart-topping hit maker has surpassed more than three decades in her successful career. Her last album The Makeover  was a #1 Top Electronic Albums on iTunes
and produced three Top Ten Dance Singles.  Jody has achieved thirteen #1 singles in Dance
and R&B, six Top Ten Hot 100 Singles, (including the influential and ground-breaking "Friends" featuring Eric B. & Rakim)  and fifteen R&B Top 40 records. Jody’s diversity in her music and continued embrace of being on the cutting edge is apparent on her collaborations with the young electro duo French Horn Rebellion and on their summer 2013 song “Dancing Out. Additionally, Jody has collaborated with Stone Throw Records' Boogie Funk Ambassador Dam-Funk, the UK's Mercury Prize winners 4Hero, DJ Spinna and other cream of the crop soulful dance music producer/musicians.

Ms. Watley, who continues to groove on stages and clubs all over the globe, including an appearance at the 2013 Essence Festival, is no stranger to the world of dance music.  In 1987 she released her groundbreaking self-titled album which featured the hit single “Looking For A New Love.” The song became a pop/soul sensation that garnered her the coveted Grammy Award for Best New Artist and pioneered her career into fame to become an international star. Jody’s dose of  her own distinct sense of style, fashion and individuality in her music and video from the song captured the attention of fans around the world. She became a trendsetting sensation, gracing the covers of some of the most prominent magazines, fashion layouts and early celebrity ad campaigns throughout the United States, Asia, Latin America and Europe. Her influence can still be seen and heard in younger female artists today.

Jody Watley continues to put genuine artistry and quality into everything she does, making each musical moment into a wonderful experience. There is no better way to wait for Paradise than to dance and enjoy the “Nightlife.”

ROBERT GLASPER EXPERIMENT ANNOUNCES

OCTOBER 29 RELEASE FOR BLACK RADIO 2

BY FEATURING COLLABORATIONS WITH COMMON, BRANDY, JILL SCOTT,
MARSHA AMBROSIUS, ANTHONY HAMILTON, NORAH JONES, SNOOP DOGG,
LUPE FIASCO, EMELI SANDÉ, AND MORE

On their 2012 breakout Black Radio, Robert Glasper Experiment laid out a new paradigm for creative music, reaching beyond entrenched genre boundaries to create a singular vision that drew from all reaches of contemporary black music and beyond. Black Radio drew unanimous praise from critics across the board and earned Glasper the highest chart positions of his career when the album debuted at #10 on Billboard's Top Current Albums chart, also claiming the #1 spot on both the Billboard Jazz chart and the iTunes R&B chart. The album kept earning accolades all the way to the 2013 GRAMMY Awards where Black Radio was awarded Best R&B Album.

On October 29, RGE ups the ante with the release of Black Radio 2 (Blue Note), another genre-defying effort that takes the Black Radio blueprint and builds to even greater heights. The core remains the Experiment, as astoundingly versatile a band as has ever existed, featuring Robert Glasper on keyboards, Derrick Hodge on bass, Mark Colenburg on drums, and Casey Benjamin on vocoder and saxophone. Fans can find news about the new album, listen to and purchase music, watch exclusive videos, see upcoming tour dates and more in The Official Robert Glasper Experiment App, which is available now exclusively through the App Store.

On Black Radio 2, the emphasis is on songwriting with 11 of the 12 tracks new originals, from the soaring lead track "I Stand Alone" featuring rapper Common and vocalist Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy through Jill Scott’s sensual ode to connection “Calls” to the reinvention fantasy “Somebody Else” featuring BRIT Award winner Emeli SandĂ©. The lone cover is the album closer, a spine-tingling version of Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children of America” by vocalist Lalah Hathaway that also features a poignant spoken word tribute to the 20 young victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting by poet Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The album was produced by Glasper along with executive producers Nicole Hegeman and Eli Wolf.

Growing up in Houston, Texas, Robert Glasper had a strong musical influence in his mother, who played piano and sang gospel music in church as well as in jazz and blues clubs in Houston. By the age of twelve, he was playing piano in church and often accompanied his mother in clubs. Raised on gospel, Motown, and R&B, by his teens he was listening to jazz, rock, pop and hip hop. He attended the Houston High School for the Performing Arts and moved to New York City to study at New School University. While still in school he was already playing with Christian McBride and Kenny Garrett, and went on to play with Nicholas Payton, Terence Blanchard, and Roy Hargrove.

After releasing his debut album Mood on the Fresh Sound label in 2003 followed by two buzzed about Blue Note albums with his acoustic Trio—Canvas (2005) and In My Element (2007)—Glasper perfectly captured his unique duality with Double-Booked (2009), an album that juxtaposed his Trio and Experiment bands, and earned the keyboardist his first GRAMMY nomination.

The 2012 release of Black Radio was met with wide acclaim, with Jay-Z’s Life+Times calling it a “a genre-bending album finding a perfect medium between jazz, R&B and hip-hop,” while Rolling Stone declared “Glasper heads down the fraught path of hip-hop jazz and gets it right,” adding that “with music this smart and inviting, the implied diss of mainstream doesn’t feel like sour grapes; it feels like a blueprint forward.” USA Today proclaimed it “an exhilarating experience,” adding that “Glasper succeeds in making accessible, authentic music that is far removed from the disposable music that dominates black radio today.”

Black Radio featured collaborations with vocalists including Erykah Badu, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Musiq Soulchild, and yasiin bey, and Glasper followed the album release with TV appearances on CBS Late Show With David Letterman, NBC Tonight Show With Jay Leno and NBC Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Black Radio was awarded Best R&B Album at the 2013 GRAMMY Awards.

Usher's Son Usher Raymond V Hospitalized in ICU After Pool Accident: Report

Usher's eldest son, Usher Raymond V, has been hospitalized following an accident in the singer's pool on Monday, Aug. 5, TMZ reports. Doctors say the 5-year-old is expected to be okay.
Per TMZ, the little boy was playing in the pool with his aunt when he dove under water to retrieve a toy from the drain. His arm then got stuck in the drain, and neither his aunt nor a maid could free him.
Two men who had been working in the house reportedly came out when the maid screamed for help; they were able to get the child's arm unstuck. He was given CPR and then rushed by ambulance to the hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Usher, who was not at home when the accident happened, arrived in time to ride in the ambulance with him.
Usher and ex-wife Tameka Foster are also parents to 4-year-old son Naviyd Ely Raymond.
This is not the first accident to befall the family. In July 2012, Usher's 11-year-old former stepson -- Foster's son, Kile Glover -- was struck by a jet ski at Lake Lanier. He was declared brain dead the next day and died two weeks later.
